Egyptians Bewildered Over US Support For Muslim Brotherhood

Posted by Bryan Treadway on Saturday, August 31, 2013, In : World News

The Egyptian people are astounded. They simply do not understand the Obama Administration's efforts to bring the Muslim Brotherhood back to power.

In an effort to make some sense of the Obama Administration's policies, Amr Adeeb, a prominent Egyptian commentator, argues that the U.S. is helping the Muslim Brotherhood to achieve power, in order to turn Egypt into a magnet for jihadist fighters. The goal, Adeeb states, is to turn Egypt into another Syria or Afghanistan and discredit Islami...

As Worries Over the Power Grid Rise, a Drill Will Simulate a Knockout Blow

Posted by Bryan Treadway on Saturday, August 31, 2013, In : US News

WASHINGTON — The electric grid, as government and private experts describe it, is the glass jaw of American industry. If an adversary lands a knockout blow, they fear, it could black out vast areas of the continent for weeks; interrupt supplies of water, gasoline, diesel fuel and fresh food; shut down communications; and create disruptions of a scale that was only hinted at by Hurricane Sandy and the attacks of Sept. 11.

This is why thousands of utility workers, business executives, ...

Five Possible Repercussions of a U.S. Military Strike on Syria

Posted by Bryan Treadway on Saturday, August 31, 2013, In : World News

Here are five scenarios the the U.S. could face in coming weeks.

1. Syria Will Try to Retaliate

Syria has already made bold threats toward the U.S. and its allies, specifically Israel, about retaliation for any U.S. intervention in Syria’s civil war.

“If Damascus comes under attack, Tel Aviv will be targeted and a full-scale war against Syria will actually issue a licence for attacking Israel,” Iran’s Fars News Agency quoted a Syrian military official as saying. “If Syria is a...

Once staunch opponent of Bush Iraq policy, Obama faces similar path on Syria

Posted by Bryan Treadway on Friday, August 30, 2013, In : World News

President Obama, with Great Britain having rejected military action in Syria, finds himself on the verge of pursuing the very kind of go-it-alone approach that he accused his predecessor of using in Iraq.

Obama, though, may not even have a "coalition of the willing” at his back, as George W. Bush did, should he choose to pursue the military option in Syria. America's most vital ally, Great Britain, effectively pulled out before the fireworks began, when the House of Commons voted again...

The global economy is fragile, global stability is weak, the west is on the edge, it’s only a matter of time before it crumbles,” he said. “Iran will eventually lose any remaining restraint and go after Israel, Syria starts spilling across the border…  When it all falls apart and the west is so weakened, who puts it all back together again?”

America’s Impending Defeat in Syria

Posted by Bryan Treadway on Thursday, August 29, 2013, In : History In Current Events

By Barry Rubin

It’s really pretty simple. The American people understandably don’t want to go to war with Syria — not to mention with Syria’s patron, Iran — and especially not for the goal of putting the Muslim Brotherhood and murderous Islamists into power there. Going to war is a serious matter, to say the least. There’s no assurance how long it will take, how many lives it will cost, and what turns it may take. And the Middle East has just had several examples of these war...

U.S. Could Look Beyond UN Security Council in Syria

In the face of a UN Security Council deadlocked on Syria, the United States and its allies could seek other means of legitimizing any retaliatory strike they launch against Syria's government for last week's alleged gas attack on civilians.

The 15-nation council has been split on Syria since 2011. Russia, President Bashar Assad's ally, and China have vetoed three resolutions condemning Assad and calling for punitive steps against his government.

A Quadrillion Yen And Counting – The Japanese Debt Bomb Could Set Off Global Panic At Any Moment

Posted by Bryan Treadway on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, In : World News

How much is 1,000,000,000,000,000 yen worth? Well, a quadrillion yen is worth approximately 10.5 trillion dollars. It is an amount of money that is larger than the "the economies of Germany, France and the U.K. combined". It is such an astounding amount of debt that it is hard to even get your mind around it.

The government debt to GDP ratio in Japan will reach 247 percent this year, and the Japanese currently spend about 50 percent of all central government tax revenue on debt service....

Pre-Crime And Mind Control Technologies Are Already Here

Posted by Bryan Treadway on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, In : Wierd Science News

Should the government be trying to figure out if we are going to commit a crime in advance? That sounds like something out of a Tom Cruise movie, but the truth is that “pre-crime” technologies such as were portrayed in Minority Report are being aggressively developed, and some have actually already been deployed.

We live at a time when technology is advancing at an exponential rate, and it can be really hard to keep up with how rapidly our world is changing. In the future, authoriti...

The Rise Of The Bear: Signs That Russia Is Rapidly Catching Up To The United States

Posted by Bryan Treadway on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, In : History In Current Events

The Russian Bear is stronger and more powerful than it has ever been before. Sadly, most Americans don't understand this. They still think of Russia as an "ex-superpower" that was rendered almost irrelevant when the Cold War ended. And yes, when the Cold War ended Russia was in rough shape.

I got the chance to go over there in the early nineties, and at the time Russia was an economic disaster zone. Russian currency was so worthless that I joked that I could go exchange a 20 dollar bill...

Attorney General Eric Holder is set to announce a major shift in federal criminal policy on Monday, overturning the decades-old "mandatory minimum prison sentences" for low-level, nonviolent drug offenders, a hallmark of President Reagan's War on Drugs.

Under the new policy, prosecutors would send fewer drug offenders to federal prison for long sentences, while judges would have more discretion in sentencing.

"Too many Americans go to too many prisons for far too long, and for no good law...

Is Obama at War With the American People?

A great Churchill quote came to mind recently, and with all the “phony scandals” as a backdrop, I was struck by an unsettling notion.  Is Obama at War?

The Churchill buffs may know where this is going, but for everyone else, here is the quote.  “In wartime, the truth is so precious that she must be attended by a bodyguard of lies.”

In fact, even without remembering those first two words, it was still clear that the bodyguard of lies was intended to deceive his enemies...
